Competition time…
“Such and such is gonna win”…”nah,
he’s/she’s too small”…”but his
condition is awesome”…”but what about #*#*?”...”no
way he’s/she’s crap” etc, etc, etc.
Why the hell do people get freaked out every year by bigging
someone else up and often psyching themselves out into a lower
placing. I have seen people resign themselves to second or
third place because of rumours of this freak or that monster…and
often it’s all bull! I have had several clients who
have gone into championship finals as underdogs. They are
“too light” or have “never got into good
enough condition before”. Well, these two quotes were
attributed to competitors who ended up winning their relevant
class, the overall title and their Professional cards…so
kiss my non gossip-buying ass!!
Save your energy for the gym (and the kitchen), don’t
waste it on talk about someone or something you have no control
over. Many people say not to worry about anyone else, to focus
on being the best that you can and let the judges decide…then
those same folk go and buy every muscle rag there is on the
shelves to check out who did this qualifier and who looked
good at that show. Try to focus on your own game plan and
trust those around you that are honest enough to tell you
the truth (“yeah, man you look great!” when you
do not will do you no favours!). Get into your own little
world, learn about all the little intricacies of contest preparation
that you can…there’s the training, the c.v. work,
the diet manipulation, the supplementation, the drugs, the
posing, the music, the tan etc. (if that isn’t enough
to worry about get a damn job!!).
Select you competition date and work to that end. Concentrate
on dialling in your physique to hit it right on that day.
Select those few that you trust to help and advise you and
then GO! No one else around you matters. Those “experts”
at the gym (and there will be many, trust me) will all fill
your head with different advice…often with no request
from you or even checking to see where you are in your plan
or even what that plan is! This always fascinates me…how
people can tell you how you should change the plan (e.g. more
c.v./less c.v., up the carbs/down the carbs, change your gear/whack
in more thermogenics etc.) with no bloody idea of what you
are actually doing!?
You know your own body and if those working with you are doing
their job they will be communicating with you (often!) to
learn how you feel, what changes in your regime afford what
effects etc. If you are going to work with them trust them…if
you don’t trust them then don’t waste their time
and your time. One plan equals one route to follow. Remember:
“Too many cooks spoil the broth”
or…”opinions are like assholes, everyone has one!”.
Conceive, believe and achieve…
